No matter if you’re on a road trip with friends or going a longer distance on a plane or train, travel opens you up to new experiences. Travel can also take a lot out of you, and staying healthy can be challenging. There are a few ways that you can continue to stay healthy while you’re out exploring the world.
One of the easiest steps to prevent illness during travel is to pack some disinfecting wipes and antibacterial gel. Anywhere lots of people touch frequently is at risk for harboring some nasty germs. Wipe down your tray table and arm rest on a plane, or squirt some antibacterial gel on your hands when washing with soap and water isn’t an option.
Getting enough rest is essential to your body. Depending on your vacation style, you may already be snoozing on the beach or at the spa. However, if you’re running around trying to catch all of the sights and sounds of a new city, make sure you’re allowing time for sleep so that your body can repair itself. You’ll wake up refreshed and ready to tackle the next day!
Staying active is also an important step to staying healthy while traveling. Pack your gym shoes and try to select hotels that offer a gym, or are near an outdoor walking path. If neither are an option, there are still some great exercises you can do in the comfort of your room. Also, before you grab a taxi or uber, ask yourself if your destination is a walkable distance away. This will allow you to keep active while also exploring your destination.
Also, remember that even if you’re on vacation, your body isn’t. Your body still needs to be properly fueled and hydrated for you to enjoy your adventure. Pack healthful snacks like almonds and fruit so you don’t get tempted by a bag of chips at a pit stop. Try to eat at least one healthful meal a day or incorporate side salads and good snacks during your vacation splurges.
Finally, hydrate, hydrate, hydrate! Your body needs good hydration to keep up with your exploration, so don’t forget to drink lots of water and hydrating beverages like VAYA.
