Everyone knows that vitamins play an important role in our bodies. What exactly do they do, though? Vitamins do everything from working deep within the DNA of our cells, to giving us an energy boost by helping us turn food into fuel! Some of the most well-known vitamins out there are B vitamins. B vitamins can be found in many foods including whole grains, leafy greens, potatoes, and certain meats and sea foods. We’ve got a rundown of just a few B vitamins you might like to know more about.

B1 (Thiamin): Vitamin B1 does a lot! It helps turn carbohydrates into energy, is essential to nerve function, and even works within our cells to help produce RNA and DNA.

B6: According to the National Institutes of Health, over 100 enzyme reactions involved in metabolism require vitamin B6. Additionally, this vitamin is also needed by the nervous system to operate properly.

B12: Vitamin B12 assists with several different functions within the body including DNA synthesis/regulation, and the metabolism of fatty and amino acids.

There are other B vitamins included in the B complex group. With fortified foods, all can be found in our everyday diets. Since B vitamins are water-soluble, it’s a good idea to get 100% of your daily value every day to promote good body function.
